Three years have passed since the concrete of the North Avenue pier ran with the wealth of the city, but today, the only sound bouncing off the reinforced glass of the estate is the bright, breathless laughter of a child.

Through the tall arched windows of the sunroom, I watch Leo navigate the manicured lawns of the courtyard. The feared enforcer of the Marchetti syndicate is currently balance-walking along the stone perimeter wall, holding the tiny, sticky hand of a dark-haired three-year-old boy.

"Careful, Uncle Leo," Matteo giggles, his amber eyes—so perfectly mirrored from his father’s—crinkling with pure, unburdened joy. "Don't fall in the flowers."

"The day I fall in the hydrangeas, little Don, is the day your father fires me," Leo replies smoothly, a genuine, easy smile breaking across his face.

I look down at the marble counter in front of me, dusting a fine layer of bleached flour over the surface. The ancient, brass-bound flour sifter my father left behind sits polished and pristine to my right, no longer a relic of a hidden past, but a tool of our everyday present.

Before I can reach for the rolling pin, a heavy, familiar warmth envelopes me from behind. Dante's massive frame slides into my space, his chest pressing against my back as his arms wrap around my waist. He has completely abandoned the armor of his tailored suits today, wearing only a soft black cashmere sweater with the sleeves pushed up, exposing the dark ink of his syndicate tattoos.

"You're tracking flour onto the floor, little baker," his deep, gravelly baritone rumbles against my ear, his hot breath sending that familiar, electric shiver straight down my spine.

"It’s a bakery, Don Marchetti," I whisper, leaning my head back against his shoulder, looking up at the rigid, breathtakingly handsome lines of his face. "Flour is the law here."

A low, dark chuckle vibrates through his chest—a sound that used to signal a predator’s satisfaction, but now carries the profound, unyielding peace of a man who has secured everything he ever wanted. The tiny pale scar through his left eyebrow twitches as his amber eyes lock onto mine, burning with a fierce, unchecked devotion that leaves me just as breathless as the day we met.

He reaches down, his large, calloused hand covering mine, our fingers interlocking over the marble counter. The massive square-cut diamond on my left hand clicks against his heavy gold wedding band—the permanent, beautiful brands of the empire we built together.

"The Commission sent the final quarterly registries this morning," Dante murmurs, his voice dropping into that razor-sharp purr that completely commands my chest. "The southern docks are clear. The transit lines are automated. The city has stopped looking for cracks in our foundation, Gianna. They finally accept that our perimeter is absolute."

"And Silvio?" I ask, a small, knowing smile playing on my lips.

"Silvio retired to Arizona last week," Dante growls softly, his lips brushing the sensitive skin beneath my jaw, his thumb tracing the steady, calm beat of my pulse. "He sent a crate of vintage wine as a parting tribute. He knows better than to ever cross the border again."

Outside, Matteo lets out another booming laugh as Leo lifts him effortlessly onto his shoulders, parading him toward the security gates where our armed guards stand watch—not to keep a cage locked, but to keep our sanctuary safe.

Dante turns me slowly in his arms until I am trapped between his hard torso and the flour-dusted counter. He looks down at me, his gaze tracking the flush on my cheeks before locking onto my eyes with an intensity that promises a lifetime of protection.

"I told you once that a Marchetti always pays his debts," he whispers, his hands sliding up to cup my jaw, his touch possessive, dominant, and utterly tender. "You gave me an empire, you gave me a son, and you gave me a home. I am going to spend the rest of my life ensuring the world bows to the queen who built it."

"We built it," I correct softly, reaching up to wrap my hands around him.
