MCP Fair-Use Policy (Unlimited Tier)

Novelmint exposes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) interface that lets AI assistants and agentic clients drive the platform programmatically. This policy describes how MCP access works on the Unlimited subscription tier and explains the daily fair-use limit that applies only to MCP-initiated work.

Why a fair-use limit exists

The Unlimited tier is designed for human creative use, where the natural pace of writing, editing, and reading bounds the amount of generation work in a given day. MCP removes that natural pacing — an autonomous agent or scripted client can drive generation around the clock. To keep the Unlimited tier sustainable for everyone, MCP-initiated work on the Unlimited tier is subject to a fair-use limit. Web app usage is unaffected — Unlimited remains genuinely unlimited for in-app use.

The daily limit

Each Unlimited subscriber receives 360 minutes (6 hours) of active MCP-driven work per calendar day (UTC). "Active" counts each minute in which any MCP tool call ran or any MCP-initiated background pipeline step was running. Idle time does not count. Minutes spent on the web app do not count.

What happens when you reach the limit

When you reach 360 active minutes of MCP work in a day, your subscription continues to cover web app usage normally and your existing in-flight MCP work completes. Further MCP-initiated work draws from your credit balance at standard credit-rate pricing — exactly the same way credits work for other subscription tiers. You will receive a one-time notification the first time this happens each day. The daily limit resets at midnight UTC.

If your credit balance is exhausted

If your credit balance is insufficient to cover an MCP-initiated operation while you are past the daily limit, that operation will return an "insufficient credits" error. You may top up your credit balance at any time to continue MCP work, or wait until the daily limit resets at midnight UTC.

Burst rate limit

In addition to the daily limit, the Unlimited tier accepts up to 60 MCP tool calls per UTC minute. Requests beyond this rate within a single minute return a rate-limit error and may be retried in the next minute. The burst limit prevents short-window flooding and does not interact with the daily 360-minute envelope.

Partner-sponsored Unlimited seats

When an Unlimited seat is assigned to you by a Platinum partner through the Partner Sponsorship program, the 360-minute daily fair-use limit applies per seat — your seat has its own daily envelope, independent of other seats your sponsor manages. Credit-balance overflow draws from your own credit balance, not your sponsor's; if you exhaust your credits, your sponsor may choose to gift additional credits.

Acceptable use

MCP access is provided to support creative workflows. Sustained automated or scripted usage that exceeds typical human creative patterns — including but not limited to operating multiple accounts in coordination to circumvent the fair-use limit, deliberately spacing requests to evade detection, or using MCP to harvest content at scale — may result in account review under the Terms of Service. Novelmint reserves the right to throttle, suspend, or revoke MCP access for accounts that exceed reasonable creative use, regardless of subscription tier.

Changes

Novelmint may adjust the daily limit, the burst rate, or the credit-overflow pricing with reasonable notice. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice. Continued use of MCP after a change constitutes acceptance.
