A story bible your chapters are written from
Last checked against the product October 1, 2026
Most story bibles are a document the author keeps and the manuscript ignores. In the Novelmint Studio the bible is what the prose reads. Describe a character, a place, or a rule of your world, and Minty drafts a structured entry, checks it against what you have already established, and saves it when you say so. From then on, any chapter involving that character is written with the entry in hand.
Key takeaways
- World building is a mode of Minty, the editor in the Novelmint Studio. You describe something and she drafts a structured story bible entry for it.
- It covers characters, places, factions, objects, magic systems, cultures, world rules, and style guides.
- She reads your existing world first, so a new entry fits it and does not duplicate or contradict what is there.
- She shows you the draft and saves it only after you approve.
- The bible is shared by every book in a series, and chapter prose is written from it.
What it does
What goes into the bible
Characters
Appearance, voice, background, motivation, relationships, secrets, and notes on how they change. Each character has one entry and it belongs to them.
Places
Geography, atmosphere, history, and why the place matters to the story.
Factions and organizations
How they are structured, what they want, how they go about it, and where the tensions are.
Rules and systems
How a magic system or a law of the setting works, what it costs, and where its limits are.
A check against what exists
Before drafting, she reads your Timeline and your current entries, and quotes them where the new entry touches them.
Images as reference
Attach a face, a place, or an object and the concrete details are folded into the entry.
How to use it
From a description to a saved entry
Switch Minty to World building
The mode menu is in Minty’s chat panel. The mode is available inside a book and on the series page.
Say what you want to capture
A name and a few details is enough to start. She asks one or two questions if she needs more, or drafts and lets you react.
Read the draft
The entry is laid out to suit its type. Correct anything that is wrong.
Approve and save
On your yes it is saved to your References and linked, so the name is recognized wherever it appears in your beats.
Keep going
Deepen the entry, add a relationship, or move on to the next character.
Example
One entry, start to finish
You ask
The Tidewardens. They keep the lighthouses and answer to nobody. People are a bit afraid of them.
You get back
- A note that your existing entry for Ines Varga calls her "a keeper", and a question: is she a Tidewarden, or does she only work for them?
- A drafted faction entry: structure, goals, methods, and the tension between the old wardens and the new.
- After your correction, the entry is saved and the faction is linked to the three beats that already name it.
- An offer to write the entry for the Tidewardens’ founder next.
An illustration with an invented world, to show the shape of a session.
Questions
Frequently asked
- What is a story bible?
- A story bible is the reference for everything a story has established: who the characters are, what places are like, how the world’s rules work. Authors keep one so that details stay consistent across a long book or a series.
- How does Novelmint build a story bible?
- You describe a character, place, faction, or rule to Minty in World building mode. She reads what your world already contains, drafts a structured entry, and saves it once you approve. Names that appear in your beats are also picked up as you plan, so the cast list grows as the story does.
- Does the AI use the bible when it writes?
- Yes. When a chapter is built into prose, the characters and places in it are written from their bible entries. A fuller entry gives a more consistent character on the page.
- I already have a world bible. Do I have to retype it?
- No. Paste it to Minty and she proposes how it divides into characters, reference documents, and plot threads, then creates them once you confirm. A bulk extraction over existing notes is also available, with a preview before anything is written.
- Is the bible shared across a series?
- Yes. Characters, places, and reference documents belong to the series, so every book in it reads the same entries.
- What does world building cost?
- Writing and editing entries never starts a chapter build. A session with Minty is counted as Minty chat, and the bulk extraction over existing notes carries a small charge shown when it runs. Current allowances are on the pricing page.Pricing
What this page does not claim
- The bible holds what you decide. Minty drafts from your description, and no entry is saved until you approve it.
- A bible lowers the number of continuity errors. It does not replace reading your own book.
- This mode writes bible entries. It does not build chapters or write prose.
- The sample on this page uses an invented world.

Where the bible gets used
An entry earns its keep twice: when a chapter is written from it, and when a continuity pass checks the story against it.
