Turn the chapter you planned into prose
Last checked against the product October 1, 2026
A chapter in Novelmint starts as beats: the scene-sized moments you planned, in order. A build writes the chapter from them. It plans each beat, then writes the prose from your beats, your story bible, and the voice you set for the series. What happens in the chapter was settled before the build began, by you.
Key takeaways
- A build writes an entire chapter from its beats in one pass: it plans each beat, then writes the prose.
- It reads three things you control: the beats, the story bible for the characters and places involved, and the series voice profile.
- There is no instructions box. To change the prose you change what it is written from, then build again.
- The cost is estimated before the build runs, and a new author’s first chapter is free.
- A build runs in the background at roughly a minute per beat, so you can leave and come back.
What it does
What a build reads, and what it writes
Your beats, in order
Each beat says what happens and what sits underneath it. The build follows them, so the chapter is made of the scenes you planned.
Your story bible
The characters and places in the chapter are written from their own entries: how they look, how they talk, what they want.
Your voice
The series voice profile shapes sentence rhythm, vocabulary, and how close the narration sits. Setting it does more for the result than choosing a model.
An estimate first
You see what the build will cost before it starts, and nothing is spent until you confirm.
A build you can walk away from
Builds run in the background. A longer wait means a longer chapter, and you can check on it while it runs.
Prose that is yours to edit
The finished chapter opens in the prose editor, beat by beat. Your hand edits are the version readers see, and a later build does not overwrite them without your say-so.
How to use it
From beats to a finished chapter
Get the beats right
A beat with real content gives the build something to write. A title on its own gives it very little.
Check the voice
Set the series voice profile before the first build. It is the strongest lever you have on how the prose reads.
See the estimate
The build shows its cost before it runs. If this is your first chapter, it is free.
Build the chapter
Start the build from the chapter on your Timeline, or ask Minty to. It runs in the background.
Read and adjust
Read the chapter. Edit the wording by hand, re-render a single beat that missed, or change the plan and build again.
Example
What one beat becomes
You ask
Beat 3: Ines reads the first letter by the lamp. It names the storm that will come on Thursday. She decides to tell no one.
You get back
- A passage of prose for that moment, in the voice set for the series, with Ines written from her bible entry.
- The decision to tell no one lands at the end of the passage, because the beat put it there.
- The passage joins the beats on either side, so the chapter reads as one piece.
- If the passage misses, you re-render that one beat. The rest of the chapter stays as it is.
An illustration with an invented story, to show how a beat relates to its prose. It is not output from a real build.
Questions
Frequently asked
- Can AI write a chapter from my outline?
- Yes. In Novelmint the outline is a set of beats, one per story moment, and a build writes the chapter from them. It also reads your story bible and your voice profile, so the characters and the narration stay consistent with what you set.
- How do I tell it what to write?
- Through the plan. There is no free-text instructions box on a build. If the prose misses, you change the beat, the character’s bible entry, or the voice profile, and build again. That keeps the story in the structure, where you can see it and where the next chapter can read it.
- How long does a chapter build take?
- Roughly a minute per beat, as a ballpark and not a promise. A twelve-beat chapter is about twelve minutes. It runs in the background, so you can close the page and come back.
- What does a build cost?
- A build costs credits, and the estimate is shown before it runs. A new author’s first chapter is free. Current plans and credit prices are on the pricing page.Pricing
- Can I edit the prose afterwards?
- Yes. The chapter opens in the prose editor, where you edit the text beat by beat. Your edited version is the one readers see, and it is not overwritten by a later build unless you accept that.
- Which AI model writes the chapter?
- You choose the models for a series. Novelmint measures how each frontier model writes fiction and publishes the results.AI fiction model benchmark
What this page does not claim
- A build does not invent the story. It writes the beats you planned, and thin beats give thin prose.
- This page does not rank the prose against any other tool. Prose quality is a matter of taste, and your first chapter is free to judge for yourself.
- The build time is a ballpark. It varies with the length of the chapter.
- The sample on this page describes an invented story. It is not output from a real build.

Before the build, and after it
The plan comes first and the polish comes after. A build sits between the two, and both ends are yours.
