A cover that comes from the book

Last checked against the product October 1, 2026

A cover has one job: tell the right reader this book is for them. That is hard to do from a one-line prompt and easier from the story itself. In Book covers mode, Minty, the editor in the Novelmint Studio, reads your book, settles on one concrete image with you, tells you what it will cost, and generates it. It becomes your cover only when you say it should.

Key takeaways

  • Book covers is a mode of Minty that takes a cover from concept to finished image in one conversation.
  • She reads the book first, so the concept comes from your story and its genre.
  • There are two quality levels. She states the cost and waits for a yes before generating, because each generation is charged separately.
  • The generated image is shown to you first. It is set as the cover only after you approve it.
  • The title and author name are overlaid automatically, and you can move and restyle them on the book’s Cover tab. You can also upload your own image there.

What it does

What the mode handles

The concept

The central image, the setting, the mood. She can pitch a few from your story, or work from the picture you already have in mind.

The cost, before the spend

You are told the quality level and what it costs, and nothing is generated until you agree.

The image

One generation at a time. The finished cover appears in the chat for you to look at.

Your approval

Looking is free of consequences. The image replaces your cover only when you tell her to use it.

The title

Title and author name are placed on the cover for you. Placement, font, and color are yours to change on the Cover tab.

A second opinion

Minty can see the cover you have set and give you a straight read on composition, genre fit, and whether the title is legible.

Example

One cover, in order

You ask

Read the book and pitch me three cover concepts. Gothic, but not a haunted house.

You get back

  1. Three concepts drawn from the story: the lamp room seen from the sea, a single letter on wet stone, the keeper’s silhouette against the storm front.
  2. After you pick the second: the quality level, what it costs, and a question. Generate it?
  3. On your yes, the finished cover appears in the chat with the title and your pen name already placed.
  4. A question: use this as the cover? And a pointer to the Cover tab for moving the title.

An illustration with an invented book, to show the order of a session.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can AI make a cover for my book?
Yes. In Novelmint, Minty reads your book, works out a concept with you, and generates the cover image. The title and author name are added for you, and the image becomes your cover only after you approve it.
Do I have to use an AI-generated cover?
No. You can upload your own image on the book’s Cover tab.
What does a cover cost?
Each generation is charged in credits, and there are two quality levels at different prices. The cost is stated before anything is generated. The Unlimited plan includes a monthly image allowance. Current prices are on the pricing page.Pricing
Can I change the title text on the cover?
Yes. The title and author name are an overlay, placed by default and adjustable on the Cover tab: position, font, and color.
What if I do not like the result?
Nothing is set until you approve it. Agree a different concept and generate again. Each generation is a separate, confirmed cost.
Does my book need a cover to be published?
Yes. A cover is one of the requirements for listing a book in the Commons.

What this page does not claim

  • A generated cover is not guaranteed to match the picture in your head on the first try. Each attempt is a separate cost.
  • This is not a replacement for a professional cover designer on a book where the cover is doing heavy commercial work.
  • Image generation is charged per image and is not covered by a chat allowance. The Unlimited plan includes a monthly image allowance.
  • The sample on this page uses an invented book.
