What Novelmint does

Every feature for writers, readers and AI agents, in plain words, with where each one is heading next.

328 features across 21 areas. Search, or pick who you are to see what is for you.

Planning your story6 features

  • Plan your book by talking it through

Describe your story to Minty, the built-in AI editor, and she lays it out as chapters, beats (scene-by-scene plan points), characters and plot threads while you watch.

Each change to your plan appears as she makes it, and she tells you what she did. Before anything that costs credits or deletes work, she shows the cost and waits for your yes.

Minty works on the book you have open; the prose itself is written when you ask for a chapter.

    • Minty works at your pace

Minty learns how hands-on you want to be, proposing small steps for you to approve or running ahead when you ask, and remembers it for next time.

    • Findings carry over to planning

What Minty finds while reviewing, checking continuity, brainstorming or planning the series arc is kept, so when you return to planning she already knows it.

The series arc plan is shared by every book in the series.

    • Brainstorm and keep the book as it is

Ask Minty for premises, twists or characters drawn from what she has read of your book, while your story stays exactly as you left it.

Works inside a book, across a series, or from your Studio home, where Minty can start a new series once an idea is ready; ideas you like can be saved to your Notebook.

      Learn more

    • Plan the arc across books

Minty reads every book in a series to plan setups, payoffs and character arcs that run across them, naming the chapters and beats she means.

From the series page she can also change series settings when you ask, such as the story dials, the narrative voice, scene styles and whether the series is ongoing or complete, confirming each change first.

From the series page she adds books, characters, places and plot threads once you confirm; inside a book she reads and advises.

    • Create your story bible with Minty

Describe a character, place or world rule, or attach an image, and Minty drafts a story bible entry, checks it against what you have, and saves it when you approve.

Story bible entries are shared by every book in the series.

      Learn more

    • Talk to your characters

Minty speaks as one of your characters, using what your story bible says about them, so you can hear their voice before you write their scenes.

Talking in character leaves your book as it is. Type [square brackets] to speak to Minty out of character.

      Learn more

  • Set the shape of your story

Move 18 story dials, such as tone, pace, romance and darkness, and the shape you choose guides how every chapter is written.

As you move the dials, the closest genres are named and unusual combinations, such as dark comedy or a long slow burn, are pointed out. The profile is saved on the series, so every book in it shares the same shape.

    Learn more

    • Set the dials from your writing

Paste a passage you wrote and the dials are set from it, or let a series with written chapters work out its own profile.

Working out a profile from your chapters is free and fills a blank profile; you adjust the dials from there.

  • A guided start for every book

A new, empty book opens on the key points of its story shape, a genre pick, name suggestions and several ways to begin.

You can begin by telling Minty about the book, picking a story starter, writing straight away, adding a first beat or uploading notes. The panel steps aside once the book has its first chapter.

    • Start a book from your Studio

Choose a new or existing series, set the story shape, add working titles if you like, and arrive at your new book ready to plan.

  • Plan every scene in one view

Lay out your book as chapters of beats (scene-by-scene plan points) in one scrolling view, and zoom between the whole series, one book and one chapter.

Move a beat up or down, into another chapter, or into a holding lane for later; a beat that already has prose takes its prose with it. Every change saves as you go.

    • Follow plot threads across chapters

Mark where each plot thread starts and ends, and colored lines show it weaving through the chapters it runs through.

    • See whose point of view it is

Each chapter shows a color band for its point-of-view character, striped when the chapter moves between several.

    • Catch an idea in seconds

Press Ctrl or Cmd + Shift + B to drop a new beat into any chapter, or into a holding lane where loose scenes wait until you place them.

Also opens as its own page, which you can add to your phone's home screen.

    • Prologues, epilogues and front matter

Mark a chapter as a prologue, epilogue or front matter, and the rest of the book renumbers around it.

Front matter, such as a title page or dedication, stays in your editor for you; you can also ask Minty to change a chapter's kind.

    • A suggestion for any beat

Stuck on a scene? Ask for a suggested beat drawn from your story so far, then keep it, change it or try again.

Each account starts with some free suggestions, shared with the book starter; after that each one costs a few credits.

    • Private notes that guide the prose

Add a note to any beat about how it should be written, such as what a character hides or the mood to strike, and readers only ever see the prose it shapes.

    • Turn written prose into a plan

For a chapter you wrote or imported as plain prose, work out its beats from the text so you can plan and revise it scene by scene.

Uses the same reading of your text as a manuscript import and costs credits; your prose stays as written.

    • New names spotted for you

Names that turn up in your beats but are missing from your story bible are listed for you to add as a new entry, link to an existing one as a nickname, or ignore.

The same panel lists characters and places that appear often but have no story bible notes yet, so you can start their notes in one click.

    • Your edits survive a dropped connection

Planning edits are held safely in your browser until they reach Novelmint, so a lost connection keeps your work.

    • See how close the book is

One bar at the top of your book shows how far along it is, measured against your own plan, and lists what is left.

The bar weighs prose, setup and world-building. It shortens while chapters are out of date or have a continuity problem, and hovering a section lists exactly what remains.

  • Your story bible

Keep your notes on characters, places and world rules in one story bible that every chapter is written from.

Reference documents hold anything else the story needs, such as a magic system or a history of the world. You choose which documents apply to each chapter.

    • Bring in documents you wrote

Import a .txt, .md, .docx or .pdf file as a new story bible document, or drop a file into an open document to add its text.

    • Earlier versions of each document

Every story bible document keeps its history, so you can look back at an earlier version and bring it back.

    • Find and replace across a series

Search every beat and story bible document in a series, review each match, and have each change reworded to read naturally, including renaming a character.

  • Organize series and books

Group books into series that share characters, places and a story bible, and move between your Studio, a series and a book from one header.

    • Tell readers where a book stands

Mark a book as ongoing, complete, on hiatus until a date you set, or abandoned, and readers see it on the book page.

A whole series can be marked the same way from its page, or by asking Minty, and its books follow.

    • Draft a description and summary

Ask for a suggested series description or book summary based on your story, then use it, discard it or try again.

    • Reorder and tidy your books

Drag books into a new order on the series page, and delete a book or series by typing its title to confirm.

Deleting applies to books and series whose chapters are private; the confirmation lists what goes with it.

Writing4 features

  • Turn your plan into prose

Ask for a chapter, in the Studio or by telling Minty, and the AI writes it from your beats, story bible and chosen voice, with the cost shown first.

Writing runs in the background while you keep working. Update writes only new or changed beats and keeps your hand edits; Replace writes every beat fresh.

You shape the prose through your plan, your story bible and your voice settings.

    Learn more

    • Choose the quality level

Pick Low, Medium, High or Max for each chapter, from a quick first draft up to several drafts of each key beat with the best one refined.

Low writes the draft only. Medium adds an editing pass. High also refines each beat and checks the chapter reads as a whole. Max writes several versions of each key beat and keeps the best; the cost estimate follows the level you pick.

    • Choose which AI models write

Pick a lead AI model for your series and the others it may draw on, compared side by side on measured writing quality and relative cost.

The series AI Models tab shows each model's overall craft score with a breakdown by skill, plus its cost. You can also choose a specific model for any single beat, or leave it on Auto.

Set for each series, with a per-beat choice where you want one.

      Fiction model benchmark

    • Your first chapter is free

The first chapter of your first book is written at no charge, and subscribers get the first chapter of every new book free.

    • The estimate is the most you pay

A chapter is charged at most the top of the estimate you saw before it started, even when the writing takes more.

    • Write chapters in your own words

Start any empty chapter by writing it yourself, or plan it as beats first, and switch between the two views whenever you like.

Writing your own prose is free; the AI writes only the chapters you ask it to.

    • As much AI as you want

Write every word yourself, let the AI write every chapter, or mix the two; how much help you take is your decision.

Every book is rated for its content and follows the same content rules.

    • Stop a chapter mid-way

Changed your mind while a chapter is being written? Stop it from the chapter, or ask Minty to stop it for you.

    • Watch each step as it happens

While a chapter is being written, a progress marker shows which step it is on, beat by beat.

    • Another model steps in

If one AI model declines or fails on a scene, the chapter carries on with another model from your chosen set.

    • Changed scenes are marked out of date

When you change a beat after its prose was written, that prose is marked out of date so you can rewrite it or keep it.

The readiness bar lists chapters with out-of-date prose. Choosing Update rewrites just the beats that changed or have no prose yet.

    • Every beat checked at higher quality

At High and Max quality, an AI judge from a different provider scores each beat for craft and faithfulness to your plan, and weak beats are redrafted before you see them.

Runs at High and Max quality; the scores also help rank the models.

    • Writing instructions tuned by testing

The instructions behind each chapter are tuned against measured tests, including a panel of outside AI models that rates how generic the prose reads.

  • Choose your narrative voice

Pick a base voice for the whole series, such as The Minimalist, The Storyteller or The Wit, and the prose follows its rhythm and tone.

  • Set the feel of each scene

Give each beat, a scene-by-scene plan point, a scene style that shapes its tone, sentence rhythm and length, within your series voice.

Scene styles live on the series Voice Modes tab. Every series starts with a standard set, and you can add styles of your own. When a chapter is written, each beat follows the style you gave it.

    • Ready-made scene styles

Start with standard styles such as Character-driven, Subtext & Motive, Kinetic & Expansive, Warm & Grounded and Controlled Tension, each described in plain words.

Each standard style says how its prose should read and which scenes it suits, from action and chases to rest, mystery and world-building.

    • Scene styles of your own

Add your own scene style for the series, such as a battle or dream style, with a name, how its prose should feel and the scenes it suits.

You can edit or remove your own styles at any time, while the standard set stays as it is. Every beat in the series can use the styles you add.

    • Each style sets the pace

Each scene style sets how long its scenes run and how its sentences move, so a chase can stretch out while a tense negotiation stays tight.

The Voice Modes tab shows each style's length against the average, and you choose it for the styles you add. Sentence rhythm follows, from short and fast to compressed and precise.

    • Pick a style on any beat

Choose the scene style for any beat from a list on the beat itself, so a chapter can move from steady description into controlled tension and back.

    • A fitting style, suggested

When AI plans your opening beats or suggests a rewrite of a beat, it also picks the scene style that fits, and you can change it.

Each style lists the kinds of scenes it suits, such as action, reveal or recovery, which guides the match.

    • Manage styles with Minty

Ask Minty to add, change or remove a scene style in chat, and she checks with you before saving it.

  • A nudge when you step away

After a quiet spell, you get one email about where your book stands, such as the chapter that is planned and waiting for you.

Characters1 feature

  • A page for every character

Every character gets a home with their full profile, a portrait and their own narration voice, shared by every book in the series.

What you write on these pages feeds the prose, so a character sounds and behaves the same from chapter to chapter and book to book.

    • Every detail, by you or Minty

Fill in a character's looks, personality, history, goals and relationships yourself, or ask Minty to draft them for you to approve.

Minty can create a new character from a sentence or two, fill in the parts of a profile that are thin, and update it as the story changes. You review what she writes before it is saved.

    • A portrait for each character

Create a portrait for any character yourself, or ask Minty to, and every later portrait keeps the face you approved first.

Before anything is spent, Minty checks what the story bible says about how the character looks and helps you fill in what is thin, at no cost.

Make portraits on the character's Images tab or by asking Minty, with the cost confirmed for each; ask for a fresh face whenever you like, or upload your own image.

      Learn more

    • A voice for each character

Give each character their own narration voice: pick one from the voice library or describe the voice you hear, then play a sample before you keep it.

When a chapter is narrated, each character speaks their lines in their own voice and the narrator reads everything else. A character without a voice of their own is read by the narrator.

    • See the whole cast at once

A relationship map draws your characters and the ties you have written between them as one connected picture.

    • Share your characters with readers

Publish a character to give them a public page, choose who readers may chat with, write their greeting, and pick what each one knows so nothing is spoiled.

A preview shows exactly what the character will know before you publish them. You also set the age rating for each character's chat.

    • Choose where chats take place

Choose which places in your story readers can use as a setting when they chat with your characters; only the places you turn on are offered.

A character's home is offered automatically. Turn on any other location on the series Chat Settings tab to let readers move a scene there.

Keeping the story consistent3 features

  • Find the contradictions

Ask Minty for a continuity check and get a list of contradictions in character facts, world rules, objects, chronology and plot logic, each tied to the beats that disagree.

For one book it checks within the book. For a series it also checks between books: facts that changed, the order of events from one book to the next, and setups that never pay off.

The check reads your book and leaves it as it is; you decide what to change.

    Learn more

  • A memory for your whole series

Every chapter is written knowing what is true at that moment in your series: who is alive, who knows which secret, how each pair stands and where everyone is.

When a chapter is planned, each change it makes, such as a death, a secret learned or a friendship broken, is recorded at the scene where it happens. Each scene is then written from the story as it stands just before it, across every book of the series in reading order. The record follows your plan, so moving or rewriting scenes updates what later chapters read.

Records the chapters Novelmint writes for you, across every book of the series in reading order.

    • Deaths stay in the past

When a character dies or disappears, every later chapter, including chapters in later books, refers to them as gone.

The change is recorded at the scene where it happens, so scenes before it still treat the character as alive and every scene after it reads the new truth.

    • Characters know only what they learned

Each character carries what they have found out so far, so a secret learned in chapter three shapes what they say in chapter nine, and a secret still hidden stays hidden.

When a chapter is planned, each scene lists what its point-of-view character must know and what they have yet to learn, and the prose keeps the second list out of their thoughts and words. At High and Max quality, a judge also checks each finished scene for a character knowing something too early, and the scene is redrafted.

    • Relationships keep their latest turn

When two characters fall out, fall in love or strike a deal, both of them carry it, and later scenes start from where the pair now stands.

    • Turning points stay with the character

Defining moments, such as a betrayal survived or a promise made, stay with the character and inform how they act in every later scene.

    • The memory follows your plan

Move a scene, reorder chapters or rewrite a chapter, and the record of what happened updates to match, so the next chapter you write reads the current story.

Each change is tied to its scene, and the reading order is taken fresh from your plan every time, so a scene moved earlier carries its changes with it. Rewriting a chapter replaces everything that chapter recorded before.

Updates reach the chapters you write or rewrite after the change.

    • Each chapter picks up the story

Before a chapter is written, it is planned from how the previous chapter ended and from what is true for its characters at that point.

    • Scenes pick up where the last ended

Each beat is written with the closing paragraphs of the beats before it in view, including the end of the previous chapter, so one scene flows into the next.

Each beat also knows how the next one opens, so it stops at the right moment and leaves the next event to its own scene.

    • Your edits carry forward

When you rewrite a passage by hand, the next scene is written to follow your version of the words.

Wherever you have edited a beat, your text is what the following beat continues from, and choosing Update on a chapter keeps your edited beats as they are.

    • The room stays the same within a scene

Within one continuous scene, where people sit, what lies on the table, the light and the weather hold steady from beat to beat, and change when the scene moves on.

    • Catch characters in the wrong place

As you plan, your beats are checked for a character who walks in while already in the room and an object that turns up away from where it was last seen, and the chapter is flagged for you.

The check runs each time you save a beat. An object whose story bible notes give it a home, such as a sword kept in the armory, is tracked from that home.

Flags show on the chapter in the book readiness bar.

    • Your notes travel with the characters

The story bible notes for every character in a chapter, plus the reference notes linked to them, go with each scene as it is written.

Name a character in a beat and the reference notes you have linked to them are attached to that chapter for you, so a magic system or a family history arrives where it is needed. You can also add or remove a chapter's notes yourself.

    • Plot threads stay in view

Plot threads that start or end in a chapter are part of its plan, so the right scenes set up, develop or pay off each thread.

    • Rewrite one scene in context

Rewrite a single beat and it is written with the whole chapter plan, what is true for its characters at that point and the prose just before it.

The chapter plan is saved with the chapter, so a one-beat rewrite reuses it while your beats are unchanged.

  • Merge duplicate characters

Fold duplicate characters, places or things into one entry, with a preview first, and every scene, portrait and bible note carried across.

Merges up to 10 entries of the same type into one, from the planning view, Minty or a connected AI; the merged entries are archived.

    • A duplicate check before adding

When Minty is about to add a character or place that looks like one you already have, she checks with you first.

Adding many entries at once also asks for your confirmation.

Revising and history5 features

  • Fix one scene and keep the rest

Revise a written chapter one beat at a time: edit the words yourself, rewrite a single beat, or run a clean-up for repeated tics and stock phrases.

After a clean-up, a list shows each change with the text before and after and the reason for it.

Your own edits are free and are the text readers see; a rewrite or clean-up costs about one beat's worth of credits.

    Learn more

    • Edit a whole chapter yourself

Edit a full chapter in a writing editor with line numbers, find and word counts, and your changes become the text readers see.

    • Ask Minty to change exact words

Tell Minty which words to change in a chapter and she makes that edit, saved as a new version under your name.

    • Return to your scene-by-scene text

Set a chapter back to the prose of its beats in one click, at no cost, with the version you replaced kept in the chapter's history.

    • Ask Minty to rework a scene

Tell Minty which beat feels off, and she can adjust the plan for it, rewrite that one beat or clean up its prose, with the cost confirmed first.

    • Read your book start to finish

Open the reading view from any chapter, or ask Minty to open it, and read every finished chapter in one scroll with the same text settings readers use.

  • Find the fix behind the prose

Ask Minty why a passage isn't working. She reads the prose, traces the problem to the beat, note or story bible detail behind it, and suggests the change to make there.

When you agree, she updates the plan and rewrites just that beat, with the cost confirmed first, so the fix lasts through every later rewrite instead of being patched over once.

  • Checkpoints and version history

Save a checkpoint of the chapters you have changed, and open any earlier version of a chapter to read its plan and prose.

Earlier versions open for reading and copying from.

  • Undo Minty's last change

One click undoes Minty's most recent round of edits and restores only what she changed.

Covers the beats, chapters, characters, plot threads, books and documents Minty added, edited, moved or deleted; edits you made afterwards stay in place.

    • Deleted scenes come back

Every deleted beat and chapter is archived first, and a beat Minty deleted comes back with its prose when you undo her change.

One-click restore covers beats Minty deleted; everything else you delete is kept in the archive.

    • Ask who changed what

Ask Minty where a beat went or who changed a chapter, and she checks the book's record of recent changes, showing which were yours and which an AI made.

The record covers beats, chapter text and story bible entries.

  • An editor's read on structure

Ask Minty to review your book for pacing, plot threads and character arcs, with each point tied to the chapters and beats behind it.

Review a whole book, a chapter, a range of chapters or beats, one plot thread or one character; the review leaves your book as it is.

AI models1 feature

  • Fiction model benchmark

A public benchmark scores the major AI models on real novel prose, and the same scores choose which model writes each scene of your book.

Craft covers qualities such as dialogue, pacing and following the plan, and scene types include emotion, conflict and romance. Each score shows its sample size. Each model has its own page, with rankings for tasks such as dialogue or romance, and the scores are published as JSON at /benchmarks.json.

    Learn more

    • The benchmark picks the writer

The same scores choose a model for each beat while your chapter is written, so each scene goes to the model that writes that kind of scene best.

The judge that scores passages during writing feeds the same scores, so the rankings keep improving as authors write. What you see on the benchmark is what decides your book.

    • Updated every week

New scores from real chapters are folded into the rankings every week, so the benchmark tracks each model as it changes.

    • Judged by peers

Every passage is scored blind by models from other AI companies, and a model never grades its own family's writing.

    • All four frontier model families

Your book can be written by models from all four major frontier AI companies: Anthropic's Claude, OpenAI's GPT, Google's Gemini and xAI's Grok.

Bringing work in and out4 features

  • Bring your notes into a private Notebook

Keep your research, world notes and loose ideas in a private Notebook that you and Minty can search across every series.

Upload notes you already have or write new ones in a Markdown editor with a live preview. Notes keep their tags and the links between them, and Minty can quote them while you plan.

Your notes stay private to your account and are reference material only; chapters are written from your story bible, and a note joins the bible only when you add it.

    • Take your notes with you

Download every note as Markdown files that open straight in Obsidian or any text editor.

    • Bring in your existing notes

Import a zipped Obsidian vault or loose Markdown, text and Word files, and get a receipt naming every file that was skipped and why.

Importing notes is part of every paid plan; writing notes by hand is open to everyone.

    • Turn a note into a bible entry

Add a note to a series story bible in one deliberate step, with any likely duplicate shown before you confirm.

    • Minty searches and quotes your notes

Ask Minty, or a connected AI, about your world and she searches your notes, follows the links between them and quotes what you wrote.

  • Import a manuscript

Upload an EPUB, Word, Markdown or plain-text manuscript and your exact words become the chapters, with the plan, cast, plot threads and story bible worked out from them.

You check the chapter splits and who is who before anything is charged. Each part of the extraction can be switched off to lower the cost, and the estimate updates as you choose.

Files up to 50 MB. Your original text is kept word for word as the chapter prose; Minty can set the import up with you in chat.

    Learn more

    • Import as-is at no cost

Bring a finished book in exactly as written for free, publish it with no AI work at all, and work out its plan, cast and story bible later if you want them.

    • Add chapters as you go

Bring more chapters into a book you already have, in batches or one at a time by pasting text or dropping in a file.

New chapters land after the last one, and everything already in the book stays as it was.

    • Spots chapters you already have

The import names any uploaded chapter whose text matches one already in your account, so you can leave it out.

    • Part headings kept as section breaks

Headings such as Part One or Act Three, in English and other languages, become section breaks above the chapter they open.

    • Add a chapter from your AI chat

Working in Claude or another connected AI, hand over a chapter you wrote elsewhere and it is added to your book from inside the chat.

One chapter at a time; nothing is saved or charged until the whole chapter has arrived.

  • Download your manuscript

Download your whole book at any time as Markdown text or a formatted Word document.

Built from each chapter's latest prose; available on the Publish tab once a chapter has prose, or as a link from Minty or a connected AI.

  • Bring your work in by chatting

Tell Minty what you already have, a finished manuscript, a story bible, notes or old AI chats, and she walks you through bringing it in.

For finished chapters she loads your existing character and world notes first, then opens the import page so your exact words are kept. For planning material she sorts it into your story bible with you in the chat, checking each step before she saves.

Minty asks before she saves anything, and your manuscript prose always comes in through the import, word for word.

    • Move your story out of AI chats

Paste in your ChatGPT or Claude brainstorming, and Minty lists the characters, places, rules and story arc she finds so you can choose what to keep.

Where an idea changed over many conversations, she keeps your final version, and where a character changes over the story, she records that arc. Long histories go in one conversation at a time.

Minty saves only what you mark as keepers and only what the chats actually say; she flags gaps for you to fill.

    • Paste in a story bible

Paste a story bible, cast list or outline into the chat, and Minty proposes how it fits your book, then saves it in small batches you approve.

If your book already has a story bible, she reports what is new, changed or in conflict, item by item, for you to decide. A name that might be an existing character under another name gets a question first.

    • Attach files and images to Minty

Attach an image, PDF, Word document or text file such as Markdown, CSV, JSON or RTF to your message, and Minty reads it with you.

PDFs are read from their text; an image can become the basis for a character or place in your story bible.

Covers, art and audio casting3 features

  • Covers made from your book

Create a cover from a concept you work out with Minty or on the Cover tab, approve it, and your title and author name are set on it for you.

Minty can look at your cover and give you a straight read on its composition, genre fit and whether the title is easy to read.

Choose Standard or Ultra quality, with the cost confirmed before each image; you can also upload a cover of your own.

    • Place and style your title

Choose where the title sits on your cover, its font style and a light or dark color, and see the result before you set it.

    • Image rules beside every upload

The image rules sit beside every place you add a cover or picture, so you can check an image before it goes up.

  • Narrate your book with a full cast

Turn published chapters into audio, with a narrator for the story and a separate voice for each character who speaks.

You set each character's voice on their Audio tab, and the narrator reads everything outside dialogue. Each chapter is priced by its length and refunded if the audio fails.

    • Narration that keeps up with edits

When you change a narrated chapter, it is marked so you can narrate it again, and the earlier audio keeps playing until the new one is ready.

    • Describe a voice and hear it

Describe a narrator in your own words, such as a gravelly older man who speaks slowly, and hear a sample before you keep it.

Voices you design are private to your account; a failed sample is refunded.

    • A voice drafted from the character

Draft a voice description from what your story bible already says about how a character sounds, then adjust it.

    • A narrator ready from day one

A series without a chosen narrator is read in Novelmint's house voice, and you can cast your own narrator at any time.

  • Make social posts from your book

Pick a book and a layout, such as a quote card, character gallery or cover collage, edit the words, and get images or short clips sized for each platform.

The preview is the finished design, so what you see is what you download. Each size is its own card, ready to post.

    • Draft posts for each network

Get draft post text for X, Bluesky, Threads, Discord and Reddit, with a suggested subreddit, for a launch, a new chapter or a finished series.

Publishing4 features

  • Publish to readers

Publish a book to the Commons, Novelmint's reading side, once it has a real title, a cover and a finished chapter, then release chapters one by one or all together.

Every chapter is rated on the way out, and a chapter the rating check is unsure about stays private for you to review. You can unlist a book later.

Minty can publish for you in chat once you say yes. Fan fiction and Adult-rated books stay private manuscripts that you can still write, edit and download.

    • Release every finished chapter at once

Publish all the finished chapters of a book in one step, and a listed book tells you when finished chapters are still private.

Chapters you switched off or that need a rating review stay private, each listed with the reason.

    • Ratings and content warnings

Each chapter gets a content rating and warnings when you publish it, with the warnings the AI detects added for you to review.

    • Edit after publishing

Keep editing a published chapter while readers see the version they know, then publish your updates when you are ready.

A chapter with newer edits is marked on your plan with a Publish updates button.

    • Free promotion for your book

Novelmint may post your cover, title and a short excerpt on its own social accounts at no cost to you, and your Readers page shows who those posts brought in.

A digest email tells you where your work appeared, with a link to each post, and the public Promotions page lists every post Novelmint has made.

You can switch this off for any book at any time.

    • Search engines hear about it

When you publish a book or a chapter, search engines are told about the new page right away so readers can find it sooner.

    • Publish by talking to Minty

Ask Minty whether your book is ready and she lists what is still missing, such as a cover, genre, summary or pen name, helps you fill each one, and publishes once you say yes.

She can also make a book free to read or release every finished chapter at once, each after you confirm.

    • Confirm your characters are your own

If the publishing check thinks a character may come from another work, you confirm once for the series that they are your own creation, and publishing goes ahead.

Confirm on the chapter's Publish tab or to Minty; a series that is fan fiction stays a private manuscript.

    • Write fan fiction privately

Mark a series as fan fiction and keep writing, editing, translating, narrating and downloading it as a private manuscript.

Retellings of public-domain stories and myths count as original work.

    • Translate your chapters

Translate any published chapter into another language for 100 credits per language, the same price a reader pays.

      Charged once the translation finishes.

    • Your title in other languages

Write your own translation of a book's title for any language, and readers in that language see it under your original title.

    • Reminders for finished chapters

If finished chapters sit unpublished, a short series of reminder emails follows a few days apart and stops as soon as you publish.

  • Publish under pen names

Create pen names, each with its own name, picture and public author page, and choose which one each series is published under.

    • An author bio drafted from your books

Ask for a suggested bio for a pen name, written from the series and books published under it, then edit it before you save.

Available on the pen name editor or by asking Minty.

    • Rename and keep your links

Retitle a book or change a pen name, and the old links keep sending readers to the right page.

    • Answer an author interview

Choose questions from a set list, answer them in your own words, and once approved the interview appears on your author page for readers in every site language.

Each answer is yours, written without AI help. Your first approved interview for each pen name earns a one-time gift of 200 credits.

  • Publish API for partners

Approved partners send finished books to Novelmint chapter by chapter through a versioned API and publish them to readers.

A partner can publish a book on behalf of a writer it represents once that writer agrees. Uploading books and chapters is free, and books go through the same content checks as any other book on Novelmint.

    • Add a book with no code

Upload a writer's manuscript and cover from the partner dashboard, check the chapter list, and the writer gets the same approval email the API sends.

    • Fix a book after upload

Correct a chapter's text or title, or a book's title, blurb, language or cover, through the API, and every chapter keeps its place.

Chapters go in at the position you give them, so you can send a backlist in any order or in parallel. Every request is safe to repeat: a duplicate returns the book or chapter already created instead of a second copy.

    • Every chapter rated for you

Novelmint gives each chapter you send its content rating at no charge, and you can check the progress on the book at any time.

A chapter goes live once it is confidently rated; any chapter needing a closer look waits for its owner to confirm.

    • Invite your publisher

Ask the publisher you already work with to publish your books on Novelmint, and withdraw that permission at any time from your Publishing page.

You get a notice each time a publisher with your permission puts one of your books live, with a link to the book and to where you can withdraw.

Knowing your readers2 features

  • See who reads your books

Further tabs show when people read, how quickly they move through chapters, how many come back, which languages they read in and which sites sent them. You can download the view you are looking at as a spreadsheet file.

Numbers are totals with no personal details about any reader.

Finding books8 features

  • Ask Minty about a book

Ask Minty, Novelmint's AI assistant, whether a book suits you, what the writing is like and whether it is finished.

Minty answers from the published book, the chapters you can open and your taste profile. You get an honest read before you spend anything.

    • Ask Minty while you read

Ask Minty about the chapter you are reading, such as who someone is or what just happened, without spoilers.

Minty sees the book only up to how far you have read, so its answers stay behind your place in the story.

    • Order translations through Minty

Ask Minty for a chapter in another language or as audio, and it quotes the price and orders it once you say yes.

Minty spends credits only after you agree to the exact price it quoted.

  • Minty, your librarian

Describe the book you want in your own words and Minty searches the whole catalog, then suggests two or three that fit, each with a reason.

Ask for "something cozy with a slow-burn romance" or "a finished fantasy series I can binge" and Minty looks before it answers. Each suggestion says why it fits: the qualities it shares with your taste, its ratings, whether it is finished, or that it is free this week. Minty is on every page for signed-in readers.

Every suggestion comes from books published on Novelmint, found by Minty's own search.

    • Find a half-remembered book

Describe a book, author or character you half remember, by a name, part of one or a word from the story, and Minty tracks it down.

    • What is new and what is free

    • A whole series at a glance

Ask about any book and Minty lays out its series in reading order, says whether it is finished and how readers rate it.

    • Authors, lists and readers to follow

Minty finds authors and reading lists that match your taste, and points you to experienced readers worth following.

    • Read and listen in your language

Ask Minty which languages a book can be read or listened to in, chapter by chapter, before you start.

  • Your reading taste profile

Describe what you love to read as a shape across 18 story qualities, such as pace, darkness and romance, and the shelves rank every book by how well it fits you.

You build a profile with a short quiz or by dragging the points of a radar chart, starting from a genre if you like. Every book carries the same kind of shape, so cards show a match score and the closest fits come first. Keep separate profiles for different moods and switch between them whenever you like.

    • Several profiles, one active

Save several named profiles, such as one for cozy weekends and one for dark thrillers, and switch which one you are reading as from the shelf filters.

Each profile keeps its own shelf tune and locked qualities, so switching changes the whole shelf at once.

    • See a book's shape

Every book card and book page shows a small chart of the book's qualities, so you can see what you are getting before chapter one.

The shape comes from the author's story settings, or is read from the finished chapters for books that arrive already written. It is the same shape your profile is matched against.

    • A match score on every book

With a profile active, each book card shows how closely it matches you, and the shelf says how many books fit closely before the rest follow in order of fit.

    • Genre pages tune in the genre's own words

On each genre page the shelf matches books to your taste within that genre, with tunes in its own terms, such as Hard magic for fantasy or Banter for romance.

Tap a subgenre name on a genre page to see the shelf through that subgenre's shape.

    • Lock what matters most

Lock one part of your taste, such as low darkness, and every tune keeps to it.

Books far from a locked quality sink down the shelf. Locks show as chips you can tap to release.

    • Let Minty tune your shelf

Tell Minty what you are in the mood for and it re-tunes your book shelf on the spot, with an Undo.

Minty can switch the shelf's tune, lean it for one search in your own words, adjust your taste profile or lock a quality. Signed-out visitors see a short demo.

    • Minty explains the fit

One pick and one mood work together, and the heading names both, such as Discovery + Slow and thoughtful. The shelf draws the leaned shape over your own radar so you can see what changed, and Back to My Station returns to your plain profile. Your choice is remembered for next time.

    • My Station

My Station ranks every book purely by how closely it fits your taste profile, closest first.

It is where the shelf starts once you have a profile, and the heading tells you how many books fit closely.

    • Crowd Faves

Crowd Faves puts the books readers rate highest first, blended with how well each fits your taste when you have a profile.

A book needs several good ratings to climb, so one early five-star review stays in proportion. Visitors without a profile start here, with the best-rated and most-read books on top.

    • Deep Cuts

Deep Cuts shows well-liked books that fewer readers have found so far, ranked by how well they fit you.

The shelf keeps books rated at or above the catalog average whose reads sit in the quieter half of the catalog. It is a good way to find something before everyone else does.

Works with a saved taste profile.

    • Discovery

Discovery casts a wider net around your taste, softening your profile so books a little outside your usual shape rise up.

Star ratings count a little too. Without a profile, Discovery puts the books with the fewest readers so far first.

    • Newly Released

Newly Released narrows the shelf to books published in the past month, ranked by how well they fit you.

Without a profile, the newest books come first.

    • Moods lean the shelf

Pick a mood such as Cozy, Fast-paced, Romantic or Morally grey, and the shelf leans your taste that way for now, with your saved profile kept as it is.

Each mood shifts two or three story qualities: Cozy lowers darkness, stakes and scale, and Twisty raises mystery and parallel storylines. Moods run from Lighter and Funny through Epic and Suspenseful to Slow and thoughtful and Dialogue-heavy. Qualities you locked stay where you put them, and on a genre page the genre's own moods come first.

Moods work with a saved taste profile.

    • Star ratings without an account

Signed-out readers who read most of a free chapter can leave a star rating.

Guest stars show as their own count beside the signed-in average, and the author sees them in full.

  • Reader reputation and tiers

Your reading and feedback build a public reputation, shown as a tier from Bookworm to Sage, that gives your favorites and ratings more say in what other readers find.

Reputation grows from things that take real effort: finishing chapters, writing reviews and private notes, answering authors' questions, and making lists other readers favorite. Feedback an author marks helpful counts for more. The five tiers are Bookworm, Devotee, Critic, Connoisseur and Sage, and your badge appears beside your name around the Commons.

One-tap actions such as follows count for very little and cheers count for nothing, so a tier reflects real reading and feedback.

A rating that scores several qualities as well as saying something in words counts most. A quick star rating on its own adds a little.

    • Answers to authors' questions count

Answering the questions an author leaves at the end of a chapter you finished adds to your reputation.

A few answers per chapter count, and answers on your own books are left out.

    • Helpful marks count extra

When an author marks your review or answer helpful, it counts for more, and your reader page shows how many of your reviews authors marked helpful.

    • Lists other readers favorite

Your reading lists add to your reputation when other readers favorite them, counting favorites from readers who have some reading of their own.

    • Tiers only go up

Your tier is refreshed every night and only ever rises, so a quiet month leaves the badge you earned in place.

The reputation underneath gives recent activity the most weight and older activity gradually less, which keeps rankings and Selects votes in step with who is reading now.

    • A badge that explains itself

Your tier shows beside your name on your reader page, your public lists and your public reviews, and tapping any badge shows all five tiers and where that reader sits.

    • Your favorites carry more weight

On the Readers favorites board and in reading list rankings, a favorite from a higher-tier reader counts for more.

    • Your ratings carry more weight in Selects

In Novelmint Selects your chapter ratings are your votes, and they count for more as your reputation grows and the more of the book you have read.

      Learn more

    • Books asking for critique

The Feedback wanted shelf lists books whose authors asked for honest critique, so you can help a writer and build your reputation.

  • Novelmint Selects

Novelmint Selects is a readers' choice competition where your chapter ratings are the votes that pick books for a curated Best-Of issue.

Each cycle has a theme, categories and prize money for authors, all shown before entries open. Votes are weighted by each reader's reputation and by how much of the book they have read.

A book enters one running cycle at a time.

    Learn more

    • Enter your book in Selects

Enter a published book in an open Novelmint Selects cycle, choosing to make it free to read while the cycle runs so more readers try it.

A book freed for the cycle goes back to its usual price when the cycle ends; you can withdraw an entry.

    • Medals on winning books

Books that place in Novelmint Selects wear a medal on their cover across the shelves and on the book page.

  • Your public reader page

Your reader page shows your bio, tier, public reading lists, what you are reading and the authors you recommend.

It also counts the chapters you have read, the reviews you have written, how many authors marked them helpful and how many people joined through your invite link.

    • Your bio in every language

Write your bio once and it is translated into all 21 site languages, so readers anywhere can read it.

    • Keep your follows private

Switch on Hide my follows and your public page stops listing the books and authors you follow.

    • A reader name made for you

Every account starts with a generated public name such as Quiet Lighthouse, so your email stays private, and you can change the name anytime.

    • Meet other readers

The Readers board introduces active readers who wrote a bio, so you can find people whose lists and reviews you trust.

Listening1 feature

  • Listen to chapters

Listen to narrated chapters in the voice the author cast, with the first chapter's audio free.

A chapter has audio once its author or a reader has had it narrated. Narration is made per chapter and per language. If the author revises a chapter after it was narrated, the player says the audio follows the earlier version.

    Learn more

    • Text follows along

Turn on read-along and each word lights up as it is spoken; tap a word to jump the audio there.

      Read-along works on English narration.

    • Listening speed

Listen at any speed from 0.75x to 1.5x.

    • Lock screen controls

Play, pause, skip and scrub from your phone's lock screen while a chapter plays.

The player also has skip back and skip forward buttons and a scrub bar.

    • Audio unlocks include the text

A chapter's audio unlocks for 25 credits, includes its text, and counts anything you already paid for that text.

If you already unlocked the text, you pay the difference. You can unlock the rest of a book's audio together for 10% off.

    • Ask for a chapter to be narrated

Ask for a chapter to be narrated in your language, and the narration stays on that chapter for every listener after you.

You see the price before you confirm, and some plans take credits off it. Books with no cast narrator are read in Novelmint's house voice. You are told when the audio is ready, and the author earns when readers unlock it.

Open on chapters you can already read; two readers asking at once start one narration and one charge.

    • Books with audio

The With audio shelf lists every book with narrated chapters, books narrated in your language first, and filters by narration language.

Languages2 features

  • 21 languages

You can use Novelmint for reading, writing and publishing in any of 21 languages.

The same languages serve the interface, authoring and chapter translation. Arabic, Persian and Urdu read right to left.

    • Titles in your language

Book and chapter titles show their original first, with a translation in your language underneath.

  • Read any chapter in your language

Have any chapter translated into one of 21 languages for 100 credits, and the translation then stays on the chapter for every reader.

First chapters and prologues translate at Novelmint's cost. A translation usually takes a few minutes, and you are told when it is ready.

    • See each chapter's languages

Each chapter in a book's list shows the languages it can be read in and which of them also have audio.

Tap a chapter's languages to open one window with a Read and a Listen option for every language, priced for you.

    • Chapters open in your language

When a chapter has been translated into the language you use Novelmint in, it opens in that language.

If the author has since revised the chapter, you see a note and can ask for a fresh translation.

Plans and credits6 features

  • Monthly plans

Monthly plans from $4 to $149 include Minty chat, narration and either monthly credits or unlimited writing.

Reader plans are Explorer at $4 with 520 credits a month, Reader at $14 with 1,850 credits and Reader/Writer at $29 with 3,900 credits. Author plans are Author at $59 with 8,500 credits and Unlimited at $149. Monthly credits on a plan go further than the same dollars spent on top-ups, and you can cancel any time.

One plan per account; choosing another plan switches the one you have.

    Learn more

    • Narration included in plans

Each plan takes 100 credits off narrating a chapter for a set number of chapters a month, from 2 on Explorer to 40 on Unlimited.

Beyond the monthly allowance, narration is charged at its usual price.

    • Monthly AI chat allowance

Every plan includes a monthly allowance of Minty chat, shared with any AI app you connect, and work beyond it draws on your credits.

Plans range from about 15 exchanges a month on Explorer to about 500 on Unlimited, where an exchange is one message and its reply. You use the allowance only when you send a message, so leaving the panel open or rereading replies costs nothing. A usage bar in the chat and Account > Usage show what is left, and the allowance resets at the start of each month.

      Learn more

    • Unlimited writing plan

On Unlimited at $149 a month, writing, building and illustrating your own books is covered by the plan, with no credits to count.

Covers and portraits come from a monthly image allowance. Narration, translation and reading other authors' books use credits as usual.

      Learn more

    • Manage your plan yourself

Change plans, update your card, download invoices or cancel from your account at any time, and a cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month.

  • Buy credits any time

Top up your balance whenever you like at 100 credits to the dollar, with or without a plan.

Credits pay for unlocking chapters, narration, translation, Minty chat and building chapters. Every purchase sends you an emailed receipt.

    • Credits stay until spent

Credits you buy stay in your balance until you spend them, at your own pace, whether or not you keep a plan.

  • Every price in one list

The pricing page lists what each thing costs in credits, from reading a chapter or hearing it narrated to a cover, a translation or a whole novel.

The AI models are included in those prices, so you pay one balance with no outside AI accounts or keys to set up.

  • Free credits to start writing

New accounts start with 400 credits to spend on writing with Minty and building chapters.

Signup credits go toward writing; readers start with the free first chapter of every book.

    • Your credits and bonus credits

Your balance shows the credits you paid for apart from any bonus credits, and bonus credits go toward what they were given for, such as writing.

Your own credits spend on anything. Because bonus credits are tied to a purpose, the balance in the header can change with the page you are on, and the billing page shows the breakdown.

  • See the cost before you spend

Check what a chapter build or other paid step will cost before it runs, in the Studio, in Minty or from your own AI app.

When your first chapter build is free, the estimate says so.

  • See where your credits went

Account > Usage lists everything you have spent credits on, grouped into writing, art, audio, translation, import, chat and reading, with refunds taken off.

Each group opens into individual items with dates, and a full history sits underneath. On Unlimited, a second total shows the work your plan covered.

Getting paid3 features

  • You keep 70% of sales

On a whole-book unlock you still earn 70% of the full price, because Novelmint covers the bundle discount.

    • Earnings clear after 30 days

Earnings from each unlock are ready to withdraw 30 days after the reader buys it.

    • Earnings by month, source and book

    • Get paid in your country

Cash out cleared earnings through Stripe in 34 countries, or by Wise bank transfer almost everywhere else.

Stripe pays in local currency across the US, UK, EEA, Canada and Switzerland. Wise pays local currency in Pakistan and Egypt and US dollars elsewhere, for a flat Wise fee of $1.13 per transfer, so the Earn page suggests cashing out $50 or more.

The countries page lists the payout method, currency, fee and minimum for every country.

    • Your rate grows with referrals

Your commission rate rises as more of the writers you referred start publishing, and the Referral page shows your level, your rate and your next review date.

A writer counts once they publish a book with at least two chapters. You move up as soon as you reach the next level, and your rate is reviewed every 6 months against the writers who started publishing in that time. Every writer you referred stays yours whatever your level.

    • See who you referred

The Referral page lists each writer who joined through your link by name, with their join date and whether they are publishing.

Your account6 features

  • You own what you write

You own the stories you make on Novelmint, including the prose the AI writes from your plan, and they publish under your name or a pen name.

Publishing gives Novelmint a non-exclusive license to show your books to readers and to quote short excerpts when promoting the site, so you are free to publish the same work elsewhere. • Two-factor sign-in

  • Updates on your books

The bell and your inbox tell you when readers unlock, follow, rate or review your work, and when a chapter you are building finishes.

You can also get a digest of where your published work was promoted, at the frequency you pick, and a warning when your credit balance runs low. Each email has its own switch in Account > Settings.

Working with other AI tools4 features

  • Minty, your built-in AI editor

Talk your book through with Minty, Novelmint's built-in AI editor, who reads your story, answers questions about it and makes the changes you agree to.

Minty works on the same scene plan, characters, plot threads and notes you see in the Studio, with the same tools an outside AI app uses. You set her focus for the job at hand, such as planning, building chapters, reviewing, checking continuity or shaping a series arc.

Works on your own books and series, and asks before she spends credits or deletes anything.

Free accounts see the full list and chat on the default model.

    • Minty for your Studio, series or book

Chat with Minty about your whole Studio, one series or one book, and each level keeps its own conversation.

At Studio level she helps with ideas above any one series and can start a new series for you. At series level she plans across books, and at book level she builds and reviews. When you move between levels, she brings a summary of your last chat with her.

    • Minty remembers how you work

Minty keeps your writing preferences from one chat to the next, and you can review or delete what she remembers in Account > Memory.

Memory holds your preferences. Story details are read fresh from your book every time.

    • Minty on every page

Open Minty from any page on Novelmint, including while you read, and she already knows what that page shows.

Each page has its own chat with tools suited to that page. A separate Talk with Minty conversation follows you across the whole site, so you can go from choosing a book to planning your own in one thread. Signed-out visitors can look around the panel and create an account to start chatting.

    • Free help questions

Ask Minty how Novelmint works or for help with your account free of charge, within a daily allowance, even when your credit balance is empty.

  • Work with any AI app

Your story lives in Novelmint, so Minty, Claude, Cursor or any AI app that connects over MCP all work on the same plan, characters and notes.

Every assistant uses the same tools on the same book. Switch assistants whenever you like: your work stays in Novelmint, so there is nothing to copy between chats.

  • Connect Claude and other AI apps

Add Novelmint to Claude, Cursor or another AI app that supports MCP, then plan, edit and build your books from inside that app.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that AI apps such as Claude use to connect to other services. You paste Novelmint's address into the app's connector settings and approve the connection on a Novelmint sign-in screen. Paid work spends from the same credit balance as the Studio and uses the same writing engine.

Works with AI apps that support remote MCP connectors with sign-in, including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Claude.ai and Cursor.

    • You choose what each AI may do

Give each connected AI app only the access it needs (read, edit, generate or delete) and disconnect it any time from Account > MCP.

    • Step-by-step guides for AI agents

Connected AI apps follow ready-made procedures for common goals, such as starting a series, drafting a chapter, updating your story bible or publishing.

The story bible is your notes on characters, places and rules. The same procedures are published on the web as a readable agent guide, in plain Markdown and in JSON. Each one lists its steps, what must be in place first and which steps cost credits.

    • Safe edits from two places

If a chapter changes in the Studio while an AI app is editing it, the app has to reload the latest text before its save goes through, so your edit stays.

Covers chapter text saves and exact-wording replacements.

    • Progress and cost cards in the chat

In AI apps that show interactive cards, you see your book's chapter-by-chapter progress and a cost card with a confirm button right in the conversation.

Other AI apps receive the same information as text.

    • Minty's working styles in your AI

Pick a ready-made starting prompt in your AI app, such as Review, Brainstorm, Continuity, Series arc or World building, to work the way Minty does.

Further prompts cover designing a cover, drawing a character portrait, role-playing a scene with a character and moving an existing project into Novelmint.

    • Reading your books is free

Looking through your books, timelines and chapters from an AI app is free, and paid work shares your plan's monthly AI allowance with Minty.

Once the allowance is used up, paid work draws on your credits at the usual rates.

    • A record of every change

Every edit, deletion and paid step an AI app makes on your account is logged, without keeping a copy of your story text.

    • Easy for AI apps to find

AI apps and MCP directories find Novelmint's connection details at standard web addresses, and an app sets up its own sign-in the first time you connect.

Ratings and safety2 features

  • Content ratings

Every chapter is rated All Ages, Teen, Mature or Adult, and you see the chapters your age allows.

Each chapter is gated by its own rating, so a Teen chapter in a Mature book opens without an age check. Shelves follow the same rule.

    Learn more

    • Age check for Mature chapters

Mature chapters open once the date of birth on your account shows you are 17 or older.

    • Adult chapters stay locked

An Adult chapter stays locked while the rest of its book remains readable at its highest non-Adult rating.

The book page says how many chapters are locked and why, and chapter navigation steps past them. Authors are warned during content review and can edit a chapter and review it again to unlock it.

A book of 5 chapters or fewer with any Adult chapter, or with more than 10% of its chapters Adult, stays private to its author.

    • Content warnings and reports

Chapters carry the author's content warnings before the text, and signed-in readers can report a book, chapter or review.

Sensitive warnings, such as self-harm, ask you to confirm before the chapter shows. Reports name a reason, go to Novelmint's moderators and stay anonymous to the author.

  • Spam and abuse screening

Reviews and notes are checked for spam and abuse before anyone else sees them, so book pages stay readable.
