What you will and will not find here

A library that takes fiction from many authors needs a clear answer to "is this suitable?". On Novelmint the answer is attached to each chapter. A chapter has to carry a content rating before it can be published, the rating is checked against the date of birth on your account, and chapters rated Adult are not served to readers at all.
Key takeaways
- Chapters are rated All Ages (G), Teen (PG), Mature (M), or Adult (A). A chapter needs a rating before it can be published.
- Mature content is for readers 17 and over, and is gated by the date of birth on your account.
- Chapters rated Adult (18+, explicit) are not served to readers on Novelmint. They are not for sale and not coming later.
- Each chapter is gated by its own rating, so a Teen chapter in a Mature book opens without an age check.
- Authors can tag a chapter with content warnings, and any reader can report a chapter or a book.
What it does
How it is handled
Four ratings
All Ages and Teen are open to readers 13 and over. Mature covers dark themes, violence, non-graphic romance, and strong language, for 17 and over. Adult is explicit and 18 and over.
Rated before publishing
A chapter cannot go public without a content rating, and each chapter goes through a content review.
Gated by your age
Opening a Mature chapter asks you to sign in and have a date of birth on your account.
Adult chapters stay closed
An Adult chapter shows as locked in the chapter list, with the reason. The rest of the book reads as normal.
Warnings up front
Where an author has tagged a chapter, a banner tells you what it contains before you read, with a confirm step for the most serious tags.
A report button
On every chapter and book. Reports go to a moderation team and are anonymous to the author.

If you are an author
What this means when you publish
Each chapter needs a content rating before it can go public, and you can add content warnings to it. A book rated Adult overall is manuscript-only: you can write it, build it, and export it, and it cannot be listed in the Commons.

Frequently asked
- Is Novelmint safe for teenagers?
- Novelmint is for readers 13 and over. Chapters rated All Ages and Teen are open to them. Mature chapters need a signed-in account with a date of birth showing the reader is 17 or over, and Adult chapters are not served to anyone.
- Is there explicit content on Novelmint?
- Not to read. Authors can write Adult-rated work in the Studio and export it, but chapters rated Adult are not served to readers in the Commons.
- Who decides a chapter’s rating?
- Every chapter has to carry a rating before it is published, and chapters go through a content review. A reader who thinks a rating is wrong can report the chapter.
- What happens to a book that has one Adult chapter?
- That chapter stays locked and the rest of the book reads as normal. A book that is mostly Adult content, or very short with an Adult chapter, is not shown.
- How do I report something?
- Use the report button on the chapter or the book page and choose a reason. Reports are reviewed by a moderation team and the author does not see who reported.
What this page does not claim
- Ratings and reviews can be wrong. The report button exists for that.
- A date of birth on an account is self-declared. Novelmint does not claim to verify identity documents for reading.
- Content warnings are added by authors and are not guaranteed to be complete.
- This page describes how content is handled. It is not legal advice or a safety certification.
